College, Faculty, Staff, & Advisory Committees
Academic Affairs and Standards Council (AASC)
AASC provides a forum for management and faculty
to discuss issues, proposals, and decisions regarding academic affairs
and standards. AASC meets monthly during the academic year. Faculty play
a critical role in the academic decision-making at the College, and the
Council provides direction for the College Provost and Academic Dean in
all matters included in academic affairs: course outlines, award
requirements, academic standards, course and program components,
degrees, and the inventory of course and program offerings. Final
curriculum decisions rest with the Council. While it is recognized that
the College Provost reserves the ultimate decision-making authority, the
practice has been to follow the decision of the Academic Affairs and
Standards Council. The MSCF contract stipulates that AASC be
chaired by a faculty member and composed of two-thirds faculty members
and one-third administrators and/or other staff, ensuring faculty
leadership in academics. AASC also responds to requests from the Office
of the Chancellor relating to policy changes or academic initiatives.
