Types of Aid

FEDERAL GRANTS

Pell Grant

  • Awarded to high need students
  • Up to $5550 per year for full time enrollment (12 or more credits/semester)
  • Must be accepted into college and enrolled in courses which lead toward a certificate, diploma, or degree
  • Amounts prorated if less than full-time (e.g. 3/4 time, 1/2 time, etc.)

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

  • Awarded to high need students who are also eligible for Pell
  • Up to $500 per year for full-time students
  • Amounts prorated if less than full-time
  • Funds are limited.  Awarded to students with greatest need who have completed files

Academic Competitiveness Grant

  • Awarded to students who can demonstrate that they completed a rigorous high school program of study before enrolling in college
  • Must have completed high school on or after January 2005
  • Be eligible to receive a Pell grant
  • Eligible students receive up to $750 in their first year of college, and $1,300 for the second year if a 3.0 GPA is maintained

 

STATE GRANTS

Minnesota State Grant

  • Awarded to Minnesota residents with financial need
  • Awards adjusted for credits based on enrollment and fees
  • Limited to a lifetime maximum award of the equivalent of 8 full-time semesters
  • FAFSA has to be completed within 30 days of the start of the semester to be eligible

Non-AFDC Child Care Grant

  • Awarded to Minnesota residents with financial need who do not receive MFIP.  Designed to help with child care expenses. Based on income, family size, and enrollment level. Must be enrolled for 6 or more credits (1/2 time or greater)
