Graphic Design Media

We are excited to announce that our Graphic Design Media Program is the only nationally accredited Graphic Arts program in the state of Minnesota, and is accredited by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities named our program a Center of Excellence!

About the Program

In the first year of the Graphic Design Media program, students receive hands-on training in the areas of color, registration, trapping, as well as other fundamental elements that are key in outputting a quality finished product. Students will work with Final Cut X editing software to produce videos, explore lighting concepts, review color elements, mix ink, and produce individualized silk screen projects. In addition, students will explore 3D media, gain insight into cost estimating and print management, and explore industry, first-hand, through guided tours.

With over ten years of industry experience and over twenty years at Mesabi Range, Paul McLaughlin will provide you with the tools to be successful and hands-on training that will allow you to bring your creativity to life!

In the second year of the program, students will experience everything from photography to becoming a designer by utilizing the industry standard in design software, the Adobe Creative Suite (CS). Adobe CS is a powerful and ever-adapting suite of software that includes InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver, all of which students will be trained to use in an efficient manner, so they can concentrate on design.

You will learn how to utilize Adobe CS to bring out the creative in you with the instruction from veteran graphic designer, Dan Prijatel. With over 23 years of industry experience, Dan will show you the ins and outs of what it takes to be in the ever-changing field of the communication arts.

From designing a logo or printed piece, all the way to learning website design and photography, you learn it in your second year in Graphic Design Media.

Educational Opportunities

After two years at Mesabi Range, you will receive a Diploma or AAS Degree. You may also decide to continue your education at a four-year college. We can assist you with those decisions at a time of graduation. Our Graphic Design Media program has credit transfer articulations with the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Career Opportunities

Want to begin your Graphic Design Media career? No problem. You can receive your diploma and immediately enter the employment field. Former students are employed at advertising agencies, interactive media companies, commercial printers, silk screen companies, and as web designers.
