Computer Lab - FAQ

When are computers available? Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis during all open hours. 

Where can I get an account to use the campus network? Accounts are created for you after you register for classes, if you try to login and you get an error message, please contact the lab assistant and he/she will contact the correct person to get your account fixed.

Can I install programs of my own on the workstations? No. Software may NOT be installed on any PC without special permission from the Director of Technology.

How can I save and access my files? All computers have 3.5 inch floppy disk drives and USB ports for flash drives. Computer Services has blank floppy disks for student use which are available in the Mezzanine Open Computer Lab. Flash drives are available for purchase in the Bookstore.

Every student at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College has 50 MB of storage space on the campus servers. We refer to this space as the I: Drive, students can access their I: drives on campus (through My Computer or My Documents) and online (through NetStorage).

Can I use my cell phone in the lab? No. Please turn your phone on vibrate and take your phone calls outside of the lab.

Can I listen to music in the lab? Yes. Students are allowed to bring CD players, MP3 players and personal headphones to listen to music provided that it does not disturb or interfere with others. If the music is too loud you will be asked to turn it off.
