Emergency Grant Information
Emergency grants are available to help current students with unforeseen financial emergencies. Emergency grants were established to help students stay in college and achieve their educational goals. Only one emergency grant per student can be received through this program. Emergency grant funding is made possible by Mesabi Range College and the Mesabi Range College Foundation.Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must have a financial hardship resulting from an emergency, accident, or other unexpected incident.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled students.
- Applications must exhaust financial aid opportunities before applying for an emergency grant.
- Applicants must complete an online application and submit supporting documentation.
- Medical/dental expenses
- Transportation, car repair
- Others, not listed
- Tuition, fees, health insurance, books, tools
- Non-essential utilities (i.e. cable), household or furniture costs not related to damage or theft
- Parking tickets
- Legal fees
- Costs for entertainment, recreation, non-emergency travel, or other non-essential expenses
Students who are in need of emergency grant assistance should contact or be referred to the Emergency Grant Coordinators, Kelly Dailey or Sabrina Skeens. The Emergency Grant Coordinators will meet with students to discuss their current situation and current needs. The Emergency Grant Coordinators will assist students in completing the online Emergency Grant Application. Students are responsible for submitting supporting documentation. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Application Review and Approval Process
Once an application is complete, the Emergency Grant Committee will meet and review submitted applications within 2 business days of submission. The majority vote is required to approve an emergency grant. Funds distributed do not generally exceed $500.
A cost center has been created for the emergency grant funds given by Mesabi Range College and the Mesabi Range College Foundation. If approved for an emergency grant, students will be contacted by the Emergency Grant Coordinators with information on how the emergency grant funds will be disbursed.Student Responsibilities
Students are required to submit supporting documentation with their emergency grant application. If approved for an emergency grant, students must follow-up with the Emergency Grant Coordinators for additional resources and support.Reporting Process
Each semester the Emergency Grant Committee will track the number of emergency grant applications received, the number of emergency grant approved, the number of emergency grants denied, and the amount of money each grant is approved for. The information will be shared with the Mesabi Range College Foundation. No names or personal information will be shared in the reporting process.
