Tamara Moore Accepts the Position of Head Men’s Basketball and Women’s Softball Coach At Mesabi Range College

Virginia, MN - Tamara Moore recently accepted the position of Head Men’s Basketball and Women’s Softball coach at Mesabi Range College. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Moore was a standout high school basketball player at Minneapolis North High School. In 1998, she helped lead the Lady Polars to the state championship and received the Ms. Basketball Award. The Blue Star Index ranked Moore as the #1 Small Forward and #15 Overall Player. Moore was further named to the 1998 Nike/WBCA All-American Top 20 Team and finished her high school career at her high school’s leader in points (2256), rebounds (1044), assists (530) and steals (577).

Moore accepted a full-ride scholarship to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she helped lead the Badgers to the 2000 WNIT Championship and was named the 2000 WNIT MVP. In 2016, Moore was named to the WNIT All-Time Top 20 Tournament Team. She finished her career as a 1600+ scorer and All-Time Leader in Assists and Steals. She was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame.

Moore played in the WNBA for 6 seasons with teams including Miami Sol, Minnesota Lynx, New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, Los Angeles Sparks, and Houston Comets. She also played 6 seasons in Israel and France.

Moore has coached high school basketball for 7 season: Head Coach for Minneapolis Edison, Prairie Seeds Academy, and Minnesota Transitions and Assistant Coach for Minneapolis Edison and Bloomington Jefferson.

Moore is currently competing in the new Global Mixed Gender Summer League, playing in 23 Global Mixed Gender games with Washington Fusion, Atlanta Heirs, and Chicago Vikings. She is also currently the owner of a semi-pro men’s team, TC Elite Basketball.

Her experience and strong knowledge of the game are evident. Tamara has proven to be very successful at every level, and I am expecting that she will continue her success on the basketball court and on the softball field.”

"For me, it's not new, just being someone that's always tried to push the game forward," Moore said. "I think it means a lot, looking at Becky Hammon and Teresa Weatherspoon and Swin Cash, all women I played with or against in the WNBA, who opened the door for this opportunity. The biggest thing for me is those doors led to this door."
